Work Offline

Users can use the web application offline, and synchronize when a connection is available.

ActivityInfo is accessible on any computer having a modern browser (internet explorer 6+, firefox 3.5+, google chrome (recommended), opera and safari). When the offline mode is enabled, users can work offline (ActivityInfo works locally on your computer) and can synchronize as soon as a connection is available.

As explained, ActivityInfo is accessible from any modern browser, however offline mode is not supported by all browsers (yet), see details below:

  • Google Chrome (recommended): full offline support, Fastest ActivityInfo experience (online or offline) and Can be installed on any computer, no administrator privileges required on Windows
  • Internet Explorer 6.0 – 8.0:  Requires Google Gears plugin to work offline (admin priviledges required on Windows)
  • Internet Explorer 9 does not support offline mode
  • Firefox: Recent versions of Firefox are not capable of running ActivityInfo offline
  • Apple Safari (Mac): full offline support
  • Opera: full offline support
Not all features are yet available offline. Data entry has been the first and foremost focus to work offline. In the near future extra features and reporting functions will become available offline too.

The initial download size (depends on the database size) will be around 900 KB (when having a very substantial database with several thousands of locations), afterwards it is only concerned with the newly entered data, often less than one KB when entering various intervention sites.

Enable offline mode for the first time

1.   In the upper right corner of your screen, your login name is displayed as are offline buttons. Please select  ”enable offline mode”

2.    A pop up shows the status of synchronization, until the synchronization is completed

3.   In the upper right corner, the time and date of the last synchronization is shown

4.   Enable working online again by selecting “work online” from the synchronization menu

Working with offline mode: synchronizing

1.   Without having an internet connection: go to your browser (internet explorer 6+, firefox 3.5+, google chrome (recommended), opera and safari), open  activityinfo.org and login

2.   ActivityInfo stores your information locally and will synchronize when you select to synchronize (when a connection is available)

3.   To synchronize your data: In the upper right corner of your screen, go to “Last Synchronized” and open the menu, select “synchronize now”

4.   A pop up will show the progress of the synchronization

5.   When completed the pop up tells you the synchronization is completed. The pop up will disappear by it self, if it stays, please click the pop up away (press the cross)
